The 2011 Rochester NY Lilac Festival suffered from the typical bad weather many Rochesterarians are already used to. The 2011 festival had to be shut down for 2 days due to the high winds and rain. Many local vendors were not able to use their spaces on Highland Park.

The Lilac Festival (Highland Park) is Rochester NY major summer festival, thousands of people from all over Monroe, Wayne, Ontario and Sweden counties come to the Highland Park in order to enjoy good music, good food and a crowd of people.

Andre Leite Alves from Aware Bear Computers in the Village of Pittsford NY was able to enjoy the festival as usual. Every year Aware Bear Computers comes to the festival and meets people from Brighton, Penfield, Pittsford, Fairport, Perinton, Mendon, Rush, Greece, Gates, Rochester and other parts of Upstate NY.

Not a lot of people know this but the Highland Park on Highland Avenue in Rochester NY has the biggest concentration of planted Lilacs in anywhere in the world. Rochester NY holds the world record for the most planted Lilacs in one place.

May 21st was different then the earlier festival days. For the people that waited and came to the Lilac Festival a little bit later were able to enjoy the sunshine and temperatures around 70-80F.

Parking was a little bit of a challenge, however with the weather being as warm as it was and finally having the sun out, a little bit of walking ended up being not a huge problem. Andre Leite Alves from Aware Bear Computers, witnessed people parking their vehicles far away and pulling out bicycles from their cars in order to get to the Lilac Festival. The festival on its last weekend due to the weather was packed like a can of sardines; nevertheless everyone was having fun, smelling the flowers and enjoying a Rochester tradition that dates back many years.
