Based in Austin and Made in the U.S.A., DRINKiD Bands Reduce Waste and Spread of Germs; Eliminate Guessing Whose Drink is Whose.
AUSTIN, Texas, June 8, 2010 - DRINKiD, a collection of colorful, stretchy bands that help identify and personalize drinks has launched in Austin, Texas and is rolling out its unique products at retailers across the state. DRINKiD is a smart, simple solution to a common problem, as well as an eco-friendly product that is made in the U.S.A., biodegradable, latex-free, water-resistant and reusable.
DRINKiD can be used on drinking vessels of various shapes, materials and sizes, such as plastic and aluminum water bottles, cans, glasses, cups, mugs and more, for use at the office, tradeshows, sporting events, playing fields, by the pool, in daycares, at parties, parks and home. Each themed DRINKiD package contains six colorful bands with original artwork designs that help easily differentiate and identify whose drink is whose.
DRINKiD was founded by Houston native Eydie Webster, who lives in Austin. The concept was created in a conference room at work, where dozens of water bottles sat on the table during meetings, with co-workers unable to recognize which drink belonged to them after taking a few sips. As a result, the recycling bins ended up overflowing with half-full bottles.
"Seeing so much waste day after day was incredibly frustrating, so one day during a meeting I took off my stretchy bracelet, put it on my bottle and said, 'This is my water!' and DRINKiD was born," says Webster, Founder and CEO of DRINKiD. "Even though the idea for DRINKiD was created in the conference room, I quickly realized the need for it in so many more places - and on every type of drinking vessel."
As Webster fine-tuned her new venture, it became clear that DRINKiD was a multi-purpose product that could cut down on the spread of germs in places like daycare facilities and at sporting events, where multiple people consume multiple drinks in close proximity. And because the original concept of DRINKiD focused on conservation and waste reduction, Webster sought out green solutions across the board, finding an American manufacturer, and sourcing biodegradable, latex-free, water-resistant and reusable materials for DRINKiD.
"DRINKiD is selling like crazy - we can't keep it in stock," says, Mary Theriot, Owner and General Manager of Learning Express Toys of Austin. "It's a smart product that hits on everything our customers desire, and it's a product that we need. The eco-friendly aspect and the fact that it's made in the U.S.A. really strikes a chord with our clientele, so everyone feels like they're making a difference on some level when they purchase DRINKiD."
DRINKiD is currently available through the company's website and in specialty pharmacies, hardware stores, boutiques and toy stores in Austin and Houston, with plans to expand to retailers nationwide.
