Exotic Veterinary Practice in Queensland Takes Necessary Precautions Against COVID-19

Australia's first dedicated bird, reptile and exotic veterinary practice takes measures to ensure the health and safety of your pets amid the COVID-19 virus uproar.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Currumbin Valley Bird, Reptile & Exotic Veterinary Services, Australia's first dedicated bird, reptile and exotic veterinary practice, is making sure around-the-clock emergency care will continue to be made available to pet owners amidst the uncertainty and fears during this outbreak of COVID-19.

Veterinary clinics and practices are one of those places that cannot close down, and the Currumbin Valley Bird, Reptile & Exotic Veterinary Services is making sure your pets are kept healthy and safe during this outbreak of COVID-19 by taking precautions like increasing the frequency of cleaning surfaces that are touched often, such as doorknobs, countertops, stethoscopes, and workstations. No-touch disposal receptacles have also been provided. Hand sanitizers have been placed in multiple locations, including exam rooms, offices, and conference rooms, to encourage hand hygiene.

How The Veterinary Healthcare Team Takes Measures To Prevent COVID-19 Spread

According to the clinic, preventive action is key. Team members are advised to:

  • practice good pet hygiene and clean up after pets properly;
  • avoid touching their mouth, eyes, and nose;
  • wash their hands especially after handling pets, preparing their food and handling wastes and supplies; and
  • avoid close contact with other people who are ill.

Veterinary healthcare team members who show symptoms of acute respiratory illness are advised to stay at home.

Reducing Exposure To The Virus By Going "Curb Side"

To reduce chances of exposure to the virus, the Currumbin Valley Bird, Reptile & Exotic Veterinary Services made the decision to not allow pet owners inside of the buildings. Instead, pet owners are to remain in the parking area while clinic staff brings pets in our out. Communication is done by phone. The clinic is trying to minimise human contact and keeping veterinary healthcare team members as healthy as possible.

The Currumbin Valley Bird, Reptile & Exotic Veterinary Services is also advising clients to call ahead prior to travelling to the clinic, to limit wait times in public areas. In some cases, veterinary healthcare team members may be able to diagnose pets over the phone or using photos. Picking up of medication and instructions in the clinic’s parking lot can also be arranged.

Pet Emergency During The Pandemic

If your pet gets injured or sick, call the clinic prior to traveling or bring your pet to a veterinary hospital closer to your location.

The Currumbin Valley Bird, Reptile & Exotic Veterinary Services will make sure that availability and quality of veterinary medical care don’t change.
