How To Prepare And Deliver Successful Persuasive Speech
Online, December 15, 2012 (Newswire.com) - A persuasive speech is one of many ways of public speaking. If done correctly, it can get the audience do things they will normally not do. Other than that, it is done with the intention of convincing people to look at things differently. Having said that, here is how one should go about preparing and delivering a successful persuasive speech.
For the speech to be really effective, the speaker needs to appeal to three core components other than just confidence and plain knowledge. They were once described by famous speaker Socrates Ethos as referring to the speaker's name, family and educational background. Another speaker Pathos see as striking up an emotional chord with audiences the same way one plays a piano.
Other than that, the speaker must present clearly for the audience to hear and understand with chemistry and in an organized manner. Doing that helps them to see the speaker as an authority figure.
That goes without saying that he must be an expert in captivating audiences. Doing that certainly helps to sell whether it is getting people to vote or invest their time and money.
But even so, this is just the first step. The next step is to sustain the audience's attention and interest as long as possible for them to accept his ideals and beliefs. More importantly, the topics one is talking about must be interesting to the audience be it their common problem or improvement in their lives.
Unless the audience like it, even the best written speech could end up in disaster. No one will bother to connect with what is boring or what they already know beforehand.
As much as what he says is what the audience is interested in, the speaker himself must also be just as passionate. This can be clearly reflected in his tone and the way he presents. What he presents must also be his original content and not copied from others although there is no harm quoting verses from well-known figures.
Before stepping on stage, he must already be well-prepared with what he is going to say. There should not be any hiccups. But he can put a glass of water before him and drink it if he needs to like what you see many speakers doing.
Last but not least, he should not try too hard to impress but present with the audience's interest in mind naturally. That is what makes a successful persuasive speech.
