INTRODUCING SPEECHWAYS,
AN INNOVATIVE HOME SOLUTION FOR CHILD SPEECH THERAPY
Easy-to-use program created by San Diego 'mom-preneur' helps parents overcome child speech problems
San Diego, Calif., August 10, 2009 - SpeechWays (www.MySpeechWays.com), a San Diego-based speech therapy company, is proud to announce the launch of its premier product Speechways Therapy Program. According to a recent study by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, the prevalence of speech sound disorder in young children is eight to nine percent. By the first grade, roughly five percent of children have noticeable speech disorders with the majority of these speech disorders having no known cause. SpeechWays Therapy Program helps combat these disorders through a set of eleven colorful cards with step-by-step instructions and tips, parents, educators and caregivers are empowered to help young children who have difficulty forming correct speech sounds, voice problems or stuttering.
The highly-effective and affordable program was designed by licensed and certified speech language pathologist Leah Moryosef, M.A., CCC-SLP, who saw the need to offer affordable speech therapy options to children who do not normally have adequate or early access to speech therapy services through public schools. These include private school students and children whose speech or language delays are not severe enough to qualify for public school speech and language programs. The SpeechWays program is also ideal for getting pre-school children who do not yet correctly produce all their sounds ready for Kindergarten.
SpeechWays is different from other child speech therapy programs because it teaches early carryover techniques, which can shorten therapy time or can eliminate the need for direct speech therapy altogether. The cost of the complete SpeechWays program costs roughly half of one speech therapy session, and can eliminate the need entirely for speech therapy sessions or greatly reduce the number of sessions needed, thereby saving parents money. The program also focuses on early intervention in children ages three to five years of age, which is important in achieving optimal results. If a child's speech sound errors are left unchecked beyond a reasonable age, the sound error can become a solidified habit that is much harder to correct at a later time, and may have a detrimental effect on a child's reading and writing skills as they progress through elementary school.
"Early intervention is very important in the remediation of speech and language delays, and yet there seem to be more obstacles than answers for parents with concerns for their children with speech problems," said Moryosef. "SpeechWays aims to fill that need with a home-based program that empowers parents to actively correct speech and sound problems in a natural and conversational way." Moryosef encourages parents and caregivers to correct speech sounds in naturalistic settings, such as dinnertime, while at the grocery store, going over homework, or playing in the park. "Any place or time that you can talk with your child about something is when you can remind them to make the correct sound," says Moryosef.
The SpeechWays program consists of eleven professionally crafted, glossy-stock sound therapy cards with complete instructions for parents. Each card explains how to teach a sound to a child (i.e., "s" and "z" sounds, etc.) and help children then carryover newly learned sounds into conversation. The program includes eight speech sound therapy cards and three therapy cards addressing care of the voice, fluency (overcoming stuttering) and vocabulary, and language enhancement.
The flexibility of the SpeechWays program allows parents to either purchase as a complete package for $69.95 or purchase one or more cards addressing their child's exact problem; individual cards can be purchased for $19.95 each. Each SpeechWays card is a different color so that they can be easily distinguished from one another and includes trouble-shooting ideas to help parents achieve maximum results. Every order ships with a package that includes a "Welcome to SpeechWays" introduction card with instructions for parents and comes in a handy, three-holed, zipper pouch that fits conveniently into a binder. All customers receive support and guidance from Moryosef, to ensure that the program is administered correctly and with success. In the San Diego County area, Moryosef is available for in-home consultation as needed for an additional fee, as the cards are not meant to completely eliminate direct therapy services for children and parents who are in need of assistance.
Colleagues and professionals in the speech-language pathology arena are sure to find these techniques helpful, rather than as something to completely replace traditional therapy sessions."I'm very impressed by the SpeechWays therapy cards," commented Debbie Munoz, a certified speech-language pathologist and orofacial mycologist. "What I like about the cards is that it's like you are actually talking to the parent, explaining to them exactly what to do!"
