Markham Braces Pro Gives Pointers For Proper Wear And Care Of Orthodontics

Online, August 25, 2012 (Newswire.com) - MARKHAM, ONTARIO - Knowing that students' lives will be busier with back to school season approaching, Dr. Arun Rajasekaran offers pointers that will help students keep their retainers looking as good as their grades.

Students and other patients will benefit from these pointers, says Rajasekaran, a Markham braces provider. Unless eating a meal or competing in sports, a removable retainer must be worn to maintain a smile that is as beautiful as it is healthy. Also, when a patient is wearing their retainer they are less likely to lose it while it is outside of its case.

"Since your retainer helps maintain the alignment achieved after braces are removed, properly caring for and wearing the appliance is necessary for maintaining a beautiful smile," says Markham Invisalign Teen provider Rajasekaran.

If the patient does not wear the retainer as directed by their orthodontist, it's possible that teeth may move back to their original position, wasting the time and money spent on invisible or metal braces.

"Properly caring for your removable retainer ensures the results of treatment last," the adult orthodontics specialist says. "Your retainer is responsible for keeping teeth properly aligned once braces are removed."

Here are a few pointers for using removable retainers to maintain a beautiful smile:

• Brush teeth as well as retainer before bed and after meals.

• Use denture cleaner, baking soda or toothpaste to properly clean your retainer.

• When not in your mouth, store your retainer in its case.

• Do not wrap retainers in napkins. Avoiding this can prevent the retainer from drying out or being thrown away.

• Avoid placing retainers in pockets or backpacks when not in their case to avoid unnecessary damage.

• Avoid leaving the retainer outside of its case for long periods.

• Avoid sanitizing retainers with alcohol or boiling water to prevent damage to their shape.
