New Innovation Brings Hope for Homeless
Online, January 7, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Members of The Homeless Utility Vehicle Project (The HUV Project) will deploy to Haiti on January 10 to receive the latest shipments of Homeless Utility Vehicles (HUVs) in Port au Prince. The team will distribute the HUVs through Haitian-based organizations that work directly with earthquake victims. In addition to helping those left homeless by the quake, the team will also be staying in the HUVs, using them for daily EMT related work, and to help determine additional uses for the invention.
Because of their low production cost of roughly $500 per unit, Executive Director and Founder Stephen Mills feels that The HUV Project is the most cost-effective and practical solution to numerous humanitarian disasters. "In under two years, we expect to have HUV production and distribution funded by both charitable organizations and government disaster relief agencies," says Mills. "In addition, we expect the HUV's to be of assistance in transitioning the homeless in the U.S. into permanent shelters."
