Regeneration Company Crowned Social Enterprise of the Year
Online, April 1, 2011 (Newswire.com) - The Red Rose Business Awards took place last night at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. Hundreds of Lancashire businesses attended the annual event to see Blackburn based Groundwork Pennine Lancashire crowned Social Enterprise of the Year 2011.
The Red Rose Awards were organised by Lancashire Business View and aim to highlight the efforts and commitments of companies that have not only survived but thrived during the difficult economic times the country has faced over the last year.
Groundwork Pennine Lancashire was awarded the Social Enterprise of the Year Award for delivering a range of innovative environmental and community based services to businesses and communities in Lancashire. The company now employs over 80 people and has a turnover of £4million, making it one of the largest environmental concerns in the county. As a social business, any profits made by the company are reinvested back into Lancashire communities.
"Everyone here is absolutely delighted to have received this Award," said Peter Neill, Executive Director at Groundwork Pennine Lancashire. "To be selected as the best of our kind in the county is a real accolade and a testament to the professionalism and commitment of our staff. It is also recognition of the valuable contribution that social enterprises such as ours can and do make to the local economy."
