The Inaugural 'Hate Mail To Barbie' Essay Competition
Online, July 30, 2012 (Newswire.com) - This competition is dedicated to everyone that's ever had to deal with self image, self esteem, or eating disorders, or ever had to compare themselves to an unrealistic images or deal with all that sexist stereotyping - Barbie as a symbol for it all. And who better?
It's not so much an essay competition as it is therapy: the essay is a chance for people to get all their Barbie Doll related anger out of their system and onto a piece of paper. Unloading; it's therapeutic.
How to enter and how it works:
Write as much or as a little as you please, make it as angry, bitter, ironic or extreme as you choose - it's totally up to you.
There's clearly a serious side to all of this, there always is to gender politics and society, so if you want to treat it more seriously we're just as happy to have a more cerebral piece.
If, on the other hand, a person likes Barbie, readers are free to balance that the editorial team is doing it with a more positive perspective.
Aspirants are also welcome to drag Ken into all of this. The best of the entries will be published as they are received - so stay tuned.
Send entries to: [email protected] please attach entry as a world document.
Up for grabs is a piece of Warhol's Children's history - the very first Warhol's Children t-shirt ever made in the entire world, autographed by the team. It's special, it is to us anyway, and it's the only one there is.
General terms and things:
Entry is open from August the first 2012 until October first 2012. The inner will be announced the following week. It's a game of skill and judged by the Warhol's Children team.
The work must be an original composition, and in entering the writer be allowing the publication team to use and republish the work at their discretion.
I'm sure we've forgotten something; for lawyers who want to help the team out pro-bono with this kind of thing, please get in touch.
