Willie Horton, Personal Development Expert, Calls for a More Pro-Active Approach to Resolving the World's Economic Woes

Online, September 29, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Willie Horton, founder of the leading Personal Development Website Gurdy.Net, today called on ordinary people to make a stand in the face of the continuing woes being inflicted on ordinary everyday lives by the political and financial elite that created the current economic crisis.

Speaking from his home in the French Alps in advance of the forthcoming publication of the second edition of his Personal Development Book, To Succeed... Just Let Go, Horton asked: "Which has had a greater impact on the ordinary everyday lives of ordinary people, 9/11 or the behaviour of a small group of greedy and powerful people?" He continued: "Against a background of 23m people unemployed in Europe, Europe's leading cities are being brought to a standstill every week by ordinary people protesting against austerity measures being introduced by governments to placate the financial markets that created the crisis in the first place. It's a bizarre circular vortex in which ordinary people have become trapped."

"Having worked in the field of personal development since 1996, I have found that many who whose that path of personal development take it too personally. Personal development is not personal. No one is an island. Your own personal development journey has to be, by definition, inter-personal. And it is collectively that like-minded people might just make a difference in a world that is so badly in need of change. If you want to change your life, you've got to influence your environment and surroundings. You've got to be part of something bigger. Personal development is about making a difference."

"Community leaders, not political leaders, have made a difference throughout history, from Gandhi to Martin Luther King, those who have been able to capture ordinary people's imagination have made a difference. And there are other Gandhis, other Kings out there - but people have become disheartened. If the personal development movement has anything real to offer for those struggling with their ordinary everyday lives it is this - if you get to love yourself you can truly put into practice the idea that we should love our neighbours as ourselves. It's time for those taking the journey of personal development to come out of the closet, to stand up and be counted" he concluded.

Horton's new book - the second edition of To Succeed... Just Let Go will be published by Gurdy.Net Books on October 13, 2010.
