Worldwide Vision: For Many Industries, In-Store Marketing Is Still King

In today's economy, most businesses are focused on the best ways to draw in new consumers and generate more revenue in a cost-effective manner. With the development of Internet communication, many companies have jumped on the online marketing bandwagon, leaving behind the concept of in-store marketing. However, a recent study highlighted in an article from The Packer reveals that in-store marketing is an effective way to increase sales to new consumers. Worldwide Vision, a specialist in face-to-face marketing, notes that although the study focuses on produce sales, the sensory benefits of in-store promotions are still relevant and valuable to companies across several industries.

According to the article, the study was conducted during the Midwest Produce Conference & Expo on Aug. 13-15 in Chicago, where groups held a consumer panel and a retail tour. What the panel concluded was that "in-store promotion, price and appearance were the best ways to influence their decision to buy fresh fruits and vegetables, rather than social media, advertising or branding." The retail tour reinforced these ideas as "Brian Holzkopf, produce operations manager at Shop and Save Markets, said his chain's produce department was the largest contributing department to sales, and having [products that appeal] to consumers as they shop was a big reason."

Worldwide Vision explains that one of the reasons in-store promotions are so successful is because they are social and interact with the consumer; in addition, the consumer is prepared to buy, and having a chance to try the product shows them exactly what they are getting. In comparison, online marketing campaigns may prove successful in gaining consumer interest, but for products that require sensory judgment, most consumers will want to taste, see or touch the item before buying it. While the article focuses on produce sales, Worldwide Vision notes that consumers often need the same face-to-face experience before purchasing items from the electronic, fashion and cosmetic industries.

In a recent press statement, Worldwide Vision responds to this recent panel, "This research helps to reinforce what we believe to be fact here at Worldwide Vision. People are impulsive and whether it is food, clothing or television service, store level marketing is without question highly effective and has stood the test of time."
